Unbelievable! A YouTuber's Unique Pizza Order
Imagine placing a pizza order on a console that's been offline for over a decade! That's exactly what a YouTuber pulled off, and it's a fascinating tale of retro gaming and innovation.
A YouTuber, Retro Game Attic, has successfully ordered a Domino's pizza using a Nintendo Wii, despite the console's official online services being discontinued years ago. But here's the twist: it wasn't as simple as it sounds.
The YouTuber utilized a fan-made app called the Food Channel, which is essentially a localized version of Japan's exclusive Demae Channel. This channel originally allowed Wii owners to order food directly from their consoles. However, when Nintendo shut down the Wii's online servers in 2014, the Food Channel became inaccessible.
And this is where it gets interesting. Retro Game Attic used WiiLink, an open-source alternative to the official servers, to revive the Japan-only Food Channel. With API integration, they could access images and up-to-date information from Domino's website, allowing them to place an order through the console.
In a captivating video, the YouTuber guides us through the process, demonstrating how to navigate the Wii's interface, select items from the Food Channel menu, and place the order. Despite the console's age and discontinued software, the order was successfully accepted and delivered.
The Nintendo Wii, released in 2006, was a pioneer in experimenting with non-gaming services, long before food ordering and streaming apps became the norm. It's a testament to the console's enduring appeal and the creativity of its users.
