The McDonald's Mike Friday Select 7s team has secured their place in the cup semi-finals of the McDonald's Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament, after a thrilling 10-7 victory over Jack's of Fiji Devo Babas at Lawaqa Park.
The match began with a strong start from Devo Babas, as Esala Boseiwaqa strolled in for an easy try, giving them an early 7-0 lead. However, the former USA winger Perry Baker showcased his speed and skill, scoring two tries down the sideline to secure the win for his team in front of a lively crowd.
In other men's quarter-finals, the Ravuka Sharks dominated NZ Development with a 24-7 score, the Yaro Chiefs easily defeated the NZ Fijian Cavaliers 31-5, and Police Blue narrowly beat Australia Select 19-14.
The semi-finals will commence at 1:30 pm, with the final set for 5:35 pm today. Meanwhile, in the Bred Bank Youth 7s, Taveuni Grassroots, St Theresa Nukubalavu, Brisk Birdland Brothers, and Village Boys have advanced to the semi-finals.
The women's category saw Police Blue shutout Pacific Nomads 19-0, Bilo Bar Aflame Women triumph 21-7, Briars beat NZ Development 38-19, and the Fijiana 7s team edge out China 1 with a score of 21-12.
